ART, NATURE & LIGHT: CHINA LIGHT FESTIVAL 2024-2025 IN BRILLIANT COLLABORATION

Every winter, China Light Festival B.V. brings warmth and wonder to cities across Europe through dazzling lantern experiences. As one of Europe’s leading light festival organizers, we remain true to our core values: combining artistic innovation, technical excellence, and meaningful collaboration with our partners and audiences to create events that captivate, educate, and inspire.

This past season marked a new chapter in our evolution. With even greater scale and deeper storytelling, we embraced themes ranging from ancient mythology to vibrant ecosystems. Each event integrated interactive elements and sustainable designs—turning winter nights into unforgettable journeys of light.

New handcrafted Lantern designs that Sparked Imagination

This season, our creative and research team unveiled over 150 large-scale lantern installations, each handcrafted by master artisans from Zigong, China. These bespoke creations harmonized Chinese cultural heritage with immersive design and eco-conscious engineering.

For our nature-themed festivals, such as those in Paris and Halle, our designers worked closely with zoologists and botanists from partnering zoos. Using archival resources and scientific literature, we ensured every animal and plant lantern was both biologically accurate and visually enchanting—a fusion of art and science that made learning feel magical.

In contrast, our mythology-inspired festivals explored immersive storytelling and dramatic set design. Drawing from a wide range of Western legends, our designers worked hand-in-hand with local institutions to shape the thematic atmosphere. Through the skilled hands of Chinese lantern artisans, icy landscapes, fantastical creatures, and fire-breathing dragons were brought vividly to life, delivering a narrative-rich and emotionally engaging experience for European audiences.

Some of our Festival Highlights That Lit Up the Season

🐉 Dragons of the North

Premiering at ZOO Planckendael in Mechelen, Belgium, this stunning installation transported visitors into a fantasy world steeped in Northern legend. The clash between the Ice Dragon and Fire Dragon served as the grand finale of the event. Both dragons were engineered with lifelike, bionic movements and synchronized with dynamic sound and smoke effects, creating a truly cinematic spectacle. The scene’s epic scale even captured the attention of national television.

🐠 Ocean Rhapsody

This immersive undersea world dazzled guests with UV-reactive fabrics, dynamic lighting, and kinetic lantern sculptures. Floating jellyfish, glowing nautiluses, and a rotating mantis shrimp filled the space with movement and color, transforming it into a dreamlike underwater realm.
